​ Founded in 1973 by Herfried Knapp, FRIGOTHERM ENGINEERING is a well established South African manufacturer of heat exchange equipment. In 1998 Herfried's son, Achim, joined the firm to strenghten its offering.  You would be right in saying that heat exchange runs strongly through the veins of this father-and-son team of mechanical engineers. With over 45 years’ experience in the field and many thousands of units deployed, FRIGOTHERM’s heat exchangers have become a trusted brand synonymous with quality and efficiency.

A standard line of modular products is offered along with customised products that meet customers' specifications and individual requirements.  We can offer solutions to most heat transfer applications with decades of expeirence and engineering knowledge all assisted by cutting-edge, computerised thermal design programmes.   Quality is ever present and evident in the company's design principles, the materials chosen, the service excellence offered and the modern technology of today employed in all production processes.   The overall staff complement remains below 40, ensuring substantial efficiencies.  Internationally the comapny has a strong, well-established partnership with "FUNKE Heat Exchangers Germany", trusted globally for its quality and service.

Recent investments -

In 2010 the company introduced its newly designed and optimised finned oil cooling core elements in extruded aluminium, allowing for high heat transfer and low weight, thus complementing its long-standing FOT series oil coolers.

Production facilities -

The company's most critical equipment includes two NC tube plate drilling machines, an applied and extruded finning machine, a chemical cleaning and thermal testing rig, a welding robot, a tube-to-tube sheet welding robot and a high-performance weld power supply. These tools and FRIGOTHERM’s vast welding experience enable the company to deliver consistent quality heat exchange products.  All products produced and delivered are thoroughly tested, both thermally and mechanically, before leaving the factory.
